I would take a look at the crank sensor as well. Remove the sensor and see if the reluctor wheel can be wiggled with a screw driver. 06 audi S4, V8/6spd.

I just got done with an engine for a guy that he broke the crank on- would start and idle fine, had throttle until about 2200rpm and then would start cutting out and running erratic.
