So apparently the late 2012 iMacs killed off the ability to use iMacs as an external display for the most part. The only way to use TDM is from a Mac to another Mac. But there's also conflicting posts saying some people have found out how to get a Windows PC to display on a Thunderbolt equipped iMac or that you have to use a specific cable.
